About JK Forest Department
The Forest Department of J&K is more than 125 years old. Initially Forests were managed for sustainable harvest of timber for different construction and industrial purposes. Later on since 1970’s the objective of Forest Department shifted to Conservation. The Forest Department since its beginning constructed Forest Rest Houses/Inspection Huts generally in remote and interior places of Forests for management purposes. These places were strategic, most scenic, overlooking vast mountainous stretches and flowing streams. In order to include people also in its conservation efforts, the Government of J&K has decided to open these Forest Rest Houses / Inspection Huts for nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts and people interested in conservation of these natural resources. These FRHs/IHs can be booked online through this website. To begin with some of the beautiful places of the Jammu and Kashmir like Pahalgam, Doodhpathri, Bandipora, Kupwara, Kokernag, Anantnag, Bani (Basohli), Surinsar - Mansar, Sanasar (Batote) etc, which are located deep in the lush green forests of Kashmir valley as well as in the forests of Jammu region are opened.
